About the Fulani in Northern Nigeria
The Fulani are a majority Muslim people group living in West and Central Africa. About 20 million Fulani live in Nigeria alone. Most Fulani are semi-nomadic, following the grazing patterns of their animals in rural areas. Access to these regions is often limited to motorcycles or on foot.
Within Nigeria, the Fulani often have an adversarial relationship with the mostly Christian farming communities in large areas of the country. This leads to the marginalisation and distrust of the Fulani. Unfortunately, even within the church it is widely believed that the Fulani are not worth knowing or understanding. This social isolation is a major barrier to the Fulani ever hearing the name of Jesus or his good news.
More workers are needed to live among them, learn their language, find creative ways to minister to them, and to value them as Christ does. We want to see many Fulani fully integrated into the body of Christ and taking their rightful place in God’s multi-ethnic family.
About The Team
This Faithful Witness team is made up of six families from Ethiopia and West Africa who are passionate about reaching the Fulani people. The team’s primary focus right now is language learning and relationship building, demonstrating Christ’s love for the Fulani by valuing their way of life. It is the team’s prayer that as relationships deepen many would be led to put their hope and faith in Jesus Christ.
Empowering the local church and existing Fulani believers to minister effectively to their unreached neighbours is a key step in bringing the gospel to this region. The team is working to provide resources and support to local evangelists as they work alongside one another in their efforts to make Jesus known to this people group.
Vision
To see God raise up a strong community of Fulani believers.
