Many Gifts, Many People, One Great Commission

What images come to mind when you think of global mission work? Perhaps you picture doctors caring for the sick in remote villages, schoolteachers working in the bush, or pastors leading underground churches in dangerous places. These are all true and beautiful ways God is at work in the world—but they’re far from the only ones.

We know from 1 Corinthians 12 that “there are varieties of gifts… and there are varieties of ministries… and there are varieties of effects,” all working through the Spirit for the common good. Faithful Witness has embraced this truth in both principle and practice—sending diverse teams to diverse places, serving in diverse vocations. It’s not just pastors and doctors out there!

Take, for example, Sonny, an IT professional working in South Asia, where Christians make up less than one percent of the population. Or Sam, who is developing water projects in some of the most remote regions of West Africa. We also have Faithful Witness teammates working in community development, job training, and hospitality. And yes, we have pastors, teachers, and doctors on these teams, too.

God has used the diversity of His people to build up His kingdom throughout history—through Paul, the tentmaker and rabbinical student, or Luke, the doctor turned author. How wonderful it is that the Creator of the universe cares about our individual passions and talents and uses them strategically for His purposes.

Just read what Sonny says about his work in IT:

“I’m uniquely positioned to build relationships with people in South Asia who otherwise wouldn’t have access to a Christ follower. I have the ability to act as a bridge between two cultures on LinkedIn and to holistically work as unto the Lord in what I do day to day.”

Sam, who is building wells among a people group with only one known believer, says:

“We’ve seen communities transformed—not just physically through access to clean water, but spiritually and emotionally. One village elder, after seeing the joy and unity that came from a new well, said, ‘Now God has remembered us.’ That moment reminded us that God uses even the simplest acts of service to reveal His love.”

There is a role for everyone in the commission of Christ, just as there is a role for everyone in the body of Christ. Whether you go, send, or support, each of us is called to engage in the work of the gospel. The Faithful Witness teams are living that out, responding to God’s call in diverse and creative ways as they serve in forgotten communities around the world.

Pray With Us

We invite you to pray for these workers and the communities they serve—that God would continue to use every gift and calling to make His name known.

  1. That God would call more people to consider how their unique gifts can serve the Great Commission.
  2. For patience and boldness for Faithful Witness workers as they share Christ with their neighbours.
  3. For open hearts in the communities being served and that physical acts of service would lead to spiritual transformation.
